What items do you have stashed away?

Tuesday, March 31. 2009

An eBay survey has shown that the average Australian could be more than $3,000 better off. Australians are sitting on a potential fortune of unused and unwanted goods. It has shown that 37% of Australians keep their clutter, which is potential dollars under their beds and in drawers, cupboards and garages. A further 11% put their unwanted items on the curb for the council collection. When surveyed 71% of people could immediately name an unwanted item that still had value, which they could sell. Electronics, fashion, furniture and toys are some of the best items being sold on eBay but 30% of those surveyed admitted to throwing these items out during Spring cleaning!

In this low economic time people are turning to eBay to look for bargains and also to sell their unwanted items. The message eBay spokesperson Sian Gipslis wanted to promote was "don't throw good money away or keep it in the closet or garage gathering dust. Instead, you could sell your unwanted goods on eBay and reap the rewards".

You can sell practically anything on eBay and use the extra cash to pay bills, your mortgage or purchase an item you are going to use.

eBay says the top money makers in Australian homes are:

Electronics: stereos, videos, televisions, desktop computers and monitors. As well as mobile phones, portable CD players, MP3 players and PDA's.

Clothing and accessories: Jeans, dresses, jumpers, boots, shoes, handbags and watches.

Household: Unwanted furniture, kitchen or home decor items, collectables and kitchen appliances.

Toys and Baby items: Unused Children's toys, Baby Clothing and Baby Accessories.

Do you believe you have $3,000 worth of unwanted pre-loved items stashed in your home?

Can you think of an item that you have that is unwanted and could be sold?

Do you prefer to throw out items instead of selling them on eBay?
