In Memory of Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen, a top English fashion designer known for his amazing designs passed away on February 11th, 2010, aged 40. McQueen committed suicide at his Hyde Park home. Alexander McQueen was grieving the loss of his mother, a teacher, who passed away on the 2nd of February. 

Alexander McQueen’s designs were extraordinary which is why he was awarded the British Designer of the Year award four times. His designs were worn by international celebrities, Rihanna, Bjork and Lady Gaga wore McQueen's renowned 12-inch heels in the video for the single, Bad Romance.

Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour called McQueen "one of the greatest talents of his generation".

Critics raved about McQueens eccentric collections; one show was created around the concept of recycling, McQueen created headwear from rubbish for models to wear.

    That is such a sad passing of an amazing artist and a great man. My respect for how he conducted himself through his professional life, the man was a genius.

    I agree Diana, although he was unconventional he did not expose his entire private life to the public, he truly is a fashion icon.

    My thoughts are with McQueen’s close family after a devastating week. This is a tragic loss for the fashion industry as it was clear Alexander McQueen could think outside the box to create a unique design, every time.

    It was clear from extensive celebrity and fashion star tribute tweets that McQueen was honoured by the entire industry.

    If you look at the press surrounding AMcQ none of it is negative it is all supportive which says a lot in this day and age I heart AMcQ and twitterland went berserk on friday.

    Loosing him is a really big loss to the fashion industry .

    Is is John, and i saw his last menswear collection and it was hot. what i find disgusting is how some sellers have been marketing off the back of his suicide - I know it happens all the time - but give his memory and family a break
