Julia Gillard: Australian Prime Minister

Friday, June 25. 2010

Julia Gillard was appointed Prime Minister of Australia after the resignation of Kevin Rudd on the 24th of June 2010. Kevin Rudd stepped down, prior to a planned leadership ballot, which allowed Deputy Julia Gillard to take on the role of Prime Minister of Australia.

Labor was concerned for their seats in this election year as Kevin Rudd had recently dropped in the opinion poll. Do you think Labor is trying to save themselves from some of the most costly decisions Australia has ever seen?

Kevin Rudd presented a professional and emotional resignation speech to the ‘folks’ where he stated the actions he was proud of during leadership including; building 20 cancer centres, the aged single pension, saying ‘sorry’ to the stolen generations, and Labors efforts on climate change.

Julia Gillard is the first female Prime Minister of Australia and is certainly capable of her recent position of Prime Minister. Although, I wonder what Labors real plan is behind this change in Labor leadership?

I only hope that our new Prime Minister implements and reinforces Australian values and is not continually scrutinised for her hair style or fashion choices.

Julia Gillard has stated that she will not move into The Lodge until she wins an election, which is said to be held within the next six months. Then, Australia will be able to have their say.

Please share your views below on the recent change in leadership of the Labor party and what you think the Labor Government has done well and what mistakes they have made whilst in Government.
