Christmas Shopping Stress

The majority of Australians believe that Christmas shopping is one of the worst things about Christmas. One third of those surveyed in the BigPond Shopping survey stated that Christmas Shopping was one of the most stressful tasks, only topped by moving house. The main reasons we are stressed over the Christmas shopping period include; finding a car park, not being able to decide what to buy and having to stand in queues, all causing ‘retail rage’.

The two main stresses- car parking and standing in queues can be rectified by shopping online; 66% of those surveyed believed that Internet shopping would be a positive experience, although over a third of Australians do not shop online.

Does a sale really mean you are saving?

I am always unsure whether to believe if something is on 'sale'. I know many stores inflate the price of their products, just before discounting these prices as they put their 'sale' signs up. I don't think it is uncommon for stores to fabricate their sales offers. I've also seen supermarkets who claim a product is on 'special' but I know that I saw it for a slightly cheaper price two weeks earlier. Does the term 'sale' make people spend? Just because an item is on 'sale' or marked down, are you more likely to purchase the product than before?

Fashion that doesn't fit

Australians are emotionally affected by the lack of sizing consistency, with one in two revealing they feel frustrated, fat or depressed when they don't fit into their usual size in clothes. Clothing may now be cheaper since it's been imported from China, but it's also very depressing when you find styles you like but their are taylored to chinese sizings. It is very hard for some people to find the right size that fits our bodies and is a constant issue that arises when we go shopping.
