Money, Money, Money!

The Government’s second attempt at preventing the economy crisis from worsening in Australia is a two-stage employment and stimulus package that is costing Australia $42 billion. The package has recently been approved and the money will begin to be handed out in March. Taxpayers who are on less than $100,000, single-income families and families with school aged children will receive money, as long as they have completed the last financial year's tax return.

The money is to be spent in Australia to encourage economic growth and prevent the economy crisis becoming worse.

The second stage of this package is an infrastructure program for Australian schools, libraries, halls, laboratories and general maintenance to encourage 90,000 jobs between now and 2011.  This also includes new homes, insulation programs and a temporary investment tax break for small business, which means those eligible can receive a 30% investment tax break.

Personally I think the money could be spent in other ways. Putting money towards farming and water would be wise. The drought has hit both our water supplies and the farming industries very hard, could some of this money be spent creating jobs and helping these two industries?

I also hope that the improvement of Australian roads will be a part of the general maintenance.

What will you spend the money you receive on?

Do you think that the new stimulus will create and protect jobs?

Do you agree with the new package?

Why do you think the Government has decided this is the way?

Can you think of something else that $42 billion could be spent on?

Should global warming be high on the Governments to-do list after the latest Victorian fires?
