Thanks to Palace Films here is your chance to win in Season double passes to see 'Four Months 3 Weeks & 2 Days', aRomanian film which won the Palme dOr at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Set in Romania during the last golden years of communism, director Cristian Mungius Palme dOr winning masterpiece resonates long after the final frame has flashed across the screen
Two small-town university students, Otilia (Anamaria Marinca) and Gabita (Laura Vasiliu) share a room and their deepest secrets. Gabita, vague, indecisive and scared, is pregnant and willing to suffer almost any indignity to avoid the stigma of single motherhood and its accompanying poverty and disgrace. Otilia, dynamic and more adept at negotiating within the harsh realities of Ceausescus regime, assists her friend in arranging an abortion - an illegal procedure which at that time carried severe penalties.
With Gabitas body click rapidly ticking, Otilia sets about renting a room in a shabby but expensive hotel, in readiness for Mr. Bebe (Vlad Ivanov), an abortionist who theyve been led to believe will do the job for the money theyve scraped together. But Bebe is no good Samaritan, demanding a more insidious form of payment from both girls when he learns that Gabita is well over four months pregnant.
FOUR MONTHS, 3 WEEKS & 2 DAYS is an utterly compelling and totally absorbing cinematic experience that transports the viewer into the lives of two young women, who are forced to make terrible decisions by a society which neither forgives or forgets.
