An environmental mystery game.
Illusion Bay is dying. Fish catches are falling, the turbidity of the water in the bay is increasing rapidly and smelly algae is appearing way too often. Can you find the cause of this damage and provide a solution for the pollution? In this environmental mystery from CSIRO Australia, children are introduced to an environmental problem and asked to investigate the local area to work out what has caused this damage. Evidence is given in a unique blend of scientific data, delightful animation, maps, graphs, illustrations and actual video footage taken by CSIRO scientists.
The locals get to have their say on who or what they think has caused the pollution. You will need to sort out opinions from facts. For a more scientific approach you may analyse data in all areas of the bay, as well as study the QuickTime videos of the activity taking place around the bay and under the water. Along the way there is an Ecotrekker guide who will explain any terms or issues you may not fully understand. Having found the source you must then propose a solution and are zoomed into the future to see the consequences of your decision. Complemented with a 32 page activity book and educational supplement, this program provides hours of discussion points on how to save and restore our local environment. Articles from CSIROšs quarterly publication ECOS are also featured on the CD and provide valuable information about activity on Australiašs coastline areas such as the Derwent River, Mission Beach and the Tropics.
