Footballer Wants A Wife brilliantly parodies reality TV dating shows and warm heartedly sends up football stereotypes

Brooke Satchwell, Ben Nicholas and Cassandra Magrath form part of an all-star cast of a brilliantly funny new six-part web series which parodies reality TV dating shows, set to launch on Wednesday, September 9.

Footballer Wants A Wife was funded through Screen Australia's Multiplatform Drama program and follows three young footballers as they embark on their modern-day journey to find true love.

The brainchild of ex-Neighbours star Ben Nicholas, Footballer Wants A Wife has been in development since 2012 until Ben took the concept to Jonathan Dutton, and Julian V Costanzo from Crankyfish, a production company specialising in TVCs and story-led digital content.

Ben says, 'I felt like there weren't any roles I was auditioning for that were fun and in line with the type of work I wanted to be doing as an actor – I also really wanted to write my own show. So while I was waiting tables, I came up with the idea of Footballer Wants A Wife. After weeks of writing, I shot a pilot with help from some good mates to take to producers and networks."

Jonathon from Crankyfish adds, 'We took on Footballer Wants A Wife because we think Ben has terrific comic talent and we also saw this as a great opportunity to show just how completely fabricated reality TV can be."

Through Ben's savvy social media skills, Footballer Wants A Wife has already built a healthily growing fan base, garnering thousands of views on his YouTube channel each time he posts a new video. The trailer for the show, which parodies -The Bachelor' was a huge hit, garnering over 60,000 views on Facebook and YouTube collectively.

Ben himself plays the role of the delightfully vain Steven Papakonstantinou, a footballer looking for a wife … just like his mother.

There will be a celebrity-studded public screening in football's hometown of Melbourne on Tuesday, September 8 at The Astor from 8pm.

Tickets are $10 and can  be purchased at http://www.eventbrite.com.au
