Harmony James

Harmony James came to the attention of the music industry in early 2007 back when her song Tailwind was announced the first Australian song to win the country category of the International Songwriting Competition.

Her second single, the number 1 hit, Somebody Stole My House, was Australia's third most played country song of 2008.

Now, with the 2009 release of her debut album, Tailwind, Harmony has confirmed that she is a talented and skilled singer songwriter.

Produced by music legend Herm Kovac, Tailwind is packed with memorable, often personal songs, including the inspiring Fly, the quirky, captivating Painted Pony and the wonderfully vitriolic Cold, Cold Rage. Kevin Bennett duets with Harmony on Some People Give, while gems like Pretty and Precious Little are world-class tracks.

Harmony was named the Best Rising Star at the 2008 Victorian Country Music Awards, and was a 2008 New Talent Golden Guitar finalist. In 2009 she was awarded Independent Female Vocalist of the Year at the Southern Stars awards.

Now featuring again with Precious Little the second biggest song of 2009 at country radio, Harmony has found herself right up with the best of the business as finalist for the CMAA Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year.

Interview with Harmony James

How did it feel to hear your song played from a CD?

Harmony James: had imagined it for so long it wasn't a surprise at all, just more like, here we are finally.

Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Harmony James: It is interesting to learn that those people who seemed so special and untouchable are really just people like you and me. We tend to forget that.

Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?

Harmony James: Yes, I love to write. It's often inspired by something that has affected my life or something I keep thinking about and coming back to.

What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

Harmony James: I have a new single called 'Pretty' at radio, and am about to tour as support for the McClymonts.

Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Harmony James: Absolutely. There are moments we tend not to talk about that are just crushing and very difficult. You have to develop serious coping mechanisms.

Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Harmony James: Recording is fun, but playing live can be really rewarding when people dig what you do and tell you so.

What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
