Lipodissolve

What is Lipodissolve?

Lipodissolve® refers to a nonsurgical method of body contouring as an alternative to minor liposculpture. Lipodissolve® injections are based on a mixture of four standard medications that are administered directly into the fat to initiate the breakdown of fat accumulation.

Lipodissolve originates from Europe and was developed further in the United States and Latin America. Dr Kohout is one of the first pioneering surgeons to bring this technique to Australia after studying the technique in United States.

What is the substance used in Lipodissolve?

The main component of Lipodissolve is Phosphatidylcholine, which is a natural compound produced from the Soya bean. The body uses the same substance in a number of chemical pathways, including fat metabolism.

To ensure a smooth reduction of the fat deposit, it is important to achieve the adequate and necessary concentration of Phosphatidylcholine in every part of the treated area, thus requiring a specific multi-injection technique. At the time of consultation Dr Kohout will calculate the required dosage per area.

The amounts of phosphatidylcholine injected into one fat deposit range between 4 ml and 80 ml per application according to your individual needs.

Is Lipodissolve for me?

Both women and men who have pockets or areas of stubborn fat that is concentrated particularly in areas such as double chin, abdomen, pecks, "love handles", thighs and legs can benefit from Lipodissolve.

Fat dissolving treatments should not be regarded as a new miracle drug for weight reduction. However in the case of fat deposits which can not easily be removed by diet or exercise, then these treatments help the natural metabolic process during which fat is melted away and then eliminated from the body. This is achieved by the medication being directly injected into the area concerned.

It is generally recommended for women to avoid therapy during their monthly cycle. The therapy can become uncomfortable and can increase bruising.

Who isn't a candidate?

The absolute contraindications of fat reducing treatment include patient's age under 18 years, pregnant women, nursing mothers, certain diabetic patients with, and patients with current infections, or suffering from severe immune deficiency disorders. You must declare any of these to your doctor.

INITIAL CONSULTATION

During the initial consultation you may be asked to point out exactly what you would like to see improved. This will help your plastic surgeon understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved with this treatment.

You will be asked about your medical history including previous operations, past and present medical conditions and current medications. In order to provide you with the best information and safest options, it is important that you give your surgeon complete information.

Dr Kohout may examine the area of concern while you are standing as well as lying down. He will also evaluate the amount of excess fat in those areas to determine how much Phosphatidylcholine will be required for optimal results.

Pre treatment photographs may be taken during your initial consultation or at a subsequent visit. Your surgeon will discuss with you the details of the treatment and answer any questions you may have regarding this treatment.

THE DAY OF TREATMENT

Prior to the treatment Dr Kohout will explain the procedure plan, which will include where the injections will be made as well as how many injections you will need before he commences. If you have not already done so, you will need to sign the consent form prior to treatment. Your treatment will be performed in the surgery by Dr Kohout. No additional medication is required after surgery.

YOUR TREATMENT

Because of individual factors, not everyone will achieve the same results from Lipodissolve. Dr Kohout will select the estimated amount of Phosphatidylcholine he feels will obtain the best outcome for you. There will be no marks left at the injection points and there will be no visible signs of the treatment.

How long does the procedure take?

The Lipodissolve procedure takes between 15min to 1 hour, depending on how many areas you are having treated per session.

How many treatments will I require?

The number of treatments differs from person to person, depending upon body region and body size. As a rule, 2-4 treatments in intervals of 6-8 weeks apart are necessary to successfully complete the treatment and produce the best results.

How long before I see results?

The effect of the treatment session becomes apparent after about 6-8 weeks as the active ingredients works on breaking down the fat cells in the injected area.

When can I resume my normal activities?

You can resume normal activity as usually and there are no special requirements after this procedure. You may continue to experience some mild discomfort and swelling during this time, but such feelings are normal for 1-3 days.

What should I avoid after treatment?

Avoid heat, sauna, sunbathing after therapy for one week.

LONG TERM RESULTS

The treatment has proven to be effective, with over 95% success rate with very few risks or side effects. Over dosage or intoxications have not become known to occur.

Long-term follow-up of patients treated with phosphatidylcholine injections to reduce local fat deposits indicate that the reduction of fat deposits is permanent, provided weight gain is low or none.

RISKS AND POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS OF TREATMENT

Fortunately, significant complications from Lipodissolve are infrequent. There is only slight discomfort and swelling and this will subside after 1-3 days. You can help to minimise these symptoms by using ice packs.

MAINTAINING A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR PLASTIC SURGEON

If you have any questions regarding Lipodissolve make sure they are answered in advance. Well meaning friends are not a good source of information. Find out everything before proceeding with the treatment - a well informed patient is a happy one.

After treatment, you will return to your plastic surgeon's office for follow-up care and possibly additional treatment at prescribed intervals, at which time your progress can be evaluated.

Post-operative photographs will form a part of the evaluation of your result. Once the immediate postoperative follow-up is complete, many surgeons encourage their patients to come back for periodic check-ups to observe and discuss the long-term results of the treatment.

Please remember that the relationship with your plastic surgeon does not end when you leave the surgery. If you have questions or concerns, or need additional information at a later time, you should contact your surgeon or his staff for assistance

If you are considering any procedure we want you to be thoroughly informed. Reading this information is the first step. However, a personal consultation with your surgeon is the best way to obtain any additional information you need.
