"The battle for Helm's Deep is over. The battle for Middle Earth is about to begin." So ended the The Two Towers, with a victorious Gandalf the White warning of even bloodier battles to come.

Having saved the people of Rohan from the legions of Saruman, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf muster the available forces for the ultimate battle that lies ahead. But before Aragorn can head into combat again, he needs to wrestle with his own destiny - determining whether to claim the crown that is rightfully his and deciding where his heart is leading him.

Frodo, Sam and Smeagol/Gollum, meanwhile, are edging closer to Mount Doom - the only place where the ring can be destroyed. The closer they get, however, the greater the danger. The dark lord Sauron can sense the ring, which is draining Frodo's strength away and driving Gollum to treachery.

Indeed, Gollum has a nasty surprise in mind for the Ringbearer, an evil eight-legged ambush that may see the ring change hands deep inside Mordor. And the fate of the ring will almost certainly determine the outcome of the battle for control of Middle Earth...
