New Balance has raised the bar in accessible sports technology and injury prevention through the development of the New Balance Compression+ garment range.
Scientifically designed to prevent injury, increase performance and reduce recovery time, the release of New Balance Compression+ in August 2010 will make both the professional and non-professional athlete rethink their limits.
New Balance Compression+ garments have been created in conjunction with Sports Medicine Practitioners Konrad Slavinskis and Exercise and Sport Scientist Travis McCombe.
Kellie Pidgeon, New Balance Regional Technical Manager of Asia Pacific and qualified podiatrist, explains that "New Balance Compression+ garments are embedded with unique ergonomic panels that improve the body's proprioceptive senses by providing a stability that greatly enhances injury prevention.
"Additionally through the strategic placement of the compression panels, New Balance Compression+ aids injury prevention by stimulating muscles and applying a tension that improves reaction time. Performance is also enhanced by creating a more efficient flow of blood and the removal of waste that allows athletes to work longer and at higher intensities. The jacquard-mesh panels also improve oxygen delivery to the working muscles by cooling specific areas of the body," said Kellie.
Studies conducted at Victoria University in Melbourne found that when tested against a leading brand, New Balance Compression+ provided more support around the core and hips, leading to better performance during balance testing.
Additionally lab tests at Deakin University in Melbourne showed that New Balance Compression+ matched or surpassed leading competitors in managing blood lactate levels during athletic performance.
"The garments actually work to stimulate the lymphatic and venous systems aiding and therefore reducing muscle soreness and improving recovery between sessions," Kellie said.
After experiencing the Compression+ garments first-hand, Pirrenee Steinert, Australian 400m track athlete, was impressed at how the apparel managed to combine comfort with functionality.
"Given the high prevalence of injuries associated with athletics, it's reassuring to know that Compression+ provides a superior level of support, particularly when it comes to issues such as hyper-extension," said Pirrenee.
