OptiDerma
OptiDerma®, an all-new range of paw-paw based wound care products is now available nationally in pharmacies across Australia.
Carica Papaya, or Paw Paw is considered to be one of nature's great healing plants and the fruit, seeds, latex and extracts have long been used to treat various ailments around the world. It is rich in vitamins A, B, C and E, amino acids, calcium, iron and enzymes and is well documented for its therapeutic powers. Papaya fruits and leaves are traditionally used in South-East Asia and Africa for wound healing and the treatment of inflammation (e.g. burns) and in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, Papaya latex is used to treat eczema and psoriasis. Papaya seeds are also very beneficial when applied to the bites and stings of poisonous insects.
The newly launched OptiDerma range of products represents one of the most significant developments in the treatment of wounds and skin conditions in Australia today, because it contains a unique Optimised Fruit Extract (OFE®) - also known as Opal A - that optimises the enzymes in fresh paw paw. The Optimised Fruit Extract works alongside carefully selected ingredients formulated to help relieve inflammation, soothe and moisturise the skin and support blood flow.
Leading Australian wound management expert, Professor Michael Woodward of the University of Melbourne is now trialling the Opal A and says, "Australia leads the way in research into new wound therapies and our trial will establish the effectiveness of Opal A in healing chronic (persistent) wounds. Over 270,000 Australians have such wounds at any one time and whilst current therapies are very useful, we need even more effective treatments. Individual case studies with Opal A are very promising but we need the rigorous science of this study, and others to follow, to show that what was seen in these cases was indeed due to the healing qualities of Opal A."
OptiDerma products have been developed for use at home to treat and manage a range of conditions, including wounds.
The OptiDerma range is suitable for all skin types including sensitive, fragile or damaged skin and includes:
