Paula LaRue is the author of "Stalking: Surviving the Hidden Terror." She has hosted a documentary on stalking and teaches criminal justice and security administration courses at Henry Ford Community College in the US. Paula has also developed and conducted seminars on stalking for police executives at the Criminal Justice Training Center and is a coordinator/speaker for a police chief training program at the Center for Excellence in Police Management Studies.

Paula holds a Master's degree from the University of Detroit in Security Administration and a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University.

As part of her work, Paula has been interviewed on television, radio and in print nationally and internationally on stalking and safety topics.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Trenton, Michigan, USA

What was your first job?
I worked as a waitress.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A police officer.

How did you get to where you are now?
I got to where I am today through goal setting, hard work, and consistently following through on what I needed to do.

What qualifications/experience are required to perform your job?
1. Being organized
2. Having excellent presentation skills - which I achieved through a lot of practice
3. Having excellent oral and communication skills

How many hours a week do you work?
Approximately 50 hours.

Where would you like to be in ten years?
Presenting seminars worldwide.

What advice would you give to somebody embarking on their first business or aspiring to achieve extraordinary career goals?

I would say to:
1. Know what you want
2. Believe in yourself and believe that you will achieve your goal
3. Develop a plan on how you are going to achieve your goal

What do you class as your biggest career achievement?
I believe my biggest achievement is connecting with and helping hundreds of people. Doing this gives me great personal satisfaction.

What is the best piece of advice anybody has given you?
Only you are responsible for your own decisions.

Home is my favorite place in the world, because that is where my family is and they are my source of strength.

Are there other related careers to your chosen career?

I started out as a security officer and progressed to security management. This extended into teaching and training individuals. This went on to working with safe houses.
