Caught in the moment
Everybody at the party looked great. Perfect bodies dressed in figure hugging spandex with perfect white teeth that had been regulary flossed and freshened with mints.
Laurie stood at the doorway entrance hesitating and a fear overcame her. Her hair had frizzed when she had got caught in the light drizzle of rain as she had run in her high heels across the bitumen car park, Clip clop, clip clop echoing behind her.
She looked across the crowded room and could spot not one familiar face, perhaps if she made a quiet getaway now then not one person would notice her she reasoned with herself. But before she could turn on her heels she felt a hand resting on her arm from behind her and a gentle voice.
Startled she turned to look into big brown eyes and a warm smile. In her mind she frantically searched for a name to put to the face before she let out a weak "Hello" . The look on his face immediately recognized her dilemma and he his lips produced the words she was searching for.
"Laurie, its me Richard! Remember me, I am the one who put all those bad eggs in your locker and slipped you two frog eyes in your bag! Surely you could not forget that in a hurry" he teased.
It all came back to her in an instant but the face now was more refined and he looked totally different to how she remembered him as a pimply scrawny kid who did nothing but annoy her in high school.
Richard guided her into the room and towards the dance floor where the music was playing a slow number she loved, he took her hand and expertly slipped his other arm around her waist before she could mutter any protest. She felt his warm chest against hers but she refused to look into his eyes instead defiantly looking over his shoulder. He pulled her back and raised his eyebrow sensing her nervousness.
"Relax, I won't bite" he mused and she was forced to look into his eyes again and felt an overwhelming sense of chemistry overcome her as her eyes locked into his. All words were trapped as his lips descended on hers blocking out everything but the electricity than ran through their bodies.
He was the first to pull away much to her disappointment, and she had always All of a sudden she became annoyed, here she was was not 20 minutes into meeting him again and she had already availed herself to his advances. What kind of nymph did he take her for? She released his grip and turned to walk away but not before his hand reached out to stop her.
"Wait, where are you going?" he asked She pushed away his hand and surged into the crowd heading straight for door but he pursued her and soon caught up with her matching her stride by stride. "I'm sorry, did I do something wrong" he said. She stopped suddenly, turned and replied. "Richard, it's not you that has done something wrong"His eyes looked into hers searching for the answer."I sorry but I am married" she replied and saw the look of disappointment come over his face. His hands flew up to slap his forehead in embarrassment before he muttered to himself. "What an idiot I have been"
"No you did not know and anyway I am glad you kissed me" she smiled back at him, then she leaned forward and she kissed him again before disappearing
into the night.
