Reclaimed Wall Art
Jo Vautier is a talented artist and graphic designer based on the Mornington Peninsula. She is passionate about the beach and her gorgeous natural surroundings. She is forever collecting interesting shapes and materials that have been eroded by the sand and sea and weaving them into stunningly simple artwork.
She creates the mixed medium wall art from reclaimed objects, using recycled copper, smooth seaglass, shells and rusted metal. Jo says "my aim is to create something that will last from objects that have been just thrown away," Jo adds "and the smooth glass and shells are so beautiful it seems the right thing to do."
Each piece of work is unique, depending on the size and shape of the things that have been found. They are all-weather and look fantastic on the wall or hanging in front of a window.
Most of Jo Vautier's wall art is below $100 ranging from $65-$120. They can be found at www.kjodesign.com.au
and at a couple of stores and artshows on the Mornington Peninsula. Contact Jo via her website for more information.
Reclaimed Wood Paintings
Like ships passing...?
Her windows look out over Port Phillip Bay and she loves to paint the huge container ships that pass through her landscape every day.
She creates the ship panels using mixed media collage on wood. Jo says "my aim is to capture a snapshot of the ships majestic beauty as they silently pass by; a vignette, with the sea and sky as supporting backdrops and the horizon line strong and distinct." She adds that "the recycled wood adds its own random patterns and texture".
