Shitbox Rally in the Outback
FIRST-EVER SH*TBOX RALLY TAKES ON AUSSIE OUTBACK

Raising money for cancer while having an experience of a lifetime

People from around the world are coming together to take part in the inaugural Sh*tbox Rally during the week of 20-27 March this year. Rather than racing against each other, the 20 teams involved will have to drive a car of less than $1,000 value - in other words, a sh*tbox - over the 3,500 kms from Sydney to Alice Springs. The challenge is to get there in one piece.

From the gateway of the outback at Nyngan to Broken Hill to the Flinders Ranges, up the Oodnadatta Track onto Uluru/Ayres Rock and finishing in Alice Springs, the rally incorporates some of the most challenging roads in Australia. Participants in the rally range from their early 20's to late 30's and herald from the UK, Hong Kong as well as various states across Australia including VIC, QLD, NSW and SA.

Each team will have two drivers and have to raise a minimum of $3,000 to be able to take part in the event. The team is also responsible for creating its own individual theme and personality for the car. Some of the names of the cars include: Muff Drivers, Morph Mobile, The Ladybugs, A Rally Car Named Desire, Sai Kung Poms, The Road Warriors and The Compact Pussycat.

The creator of the rally, James Freeman, who recently lost both his parents as well as his brother (five years ago) to cancer, hopes to not only raise funds for the Cancer Council of NSW but also help support the greater community of people it affects.

James said: "Like me, the type of people that are doing the rally want to make a bigger and more meaningful contribution to the fight against cancer. If they can do that whilst seeing more of Australia and challenging themselves along the way then the rally becomes fulfilling in a number of different ways. Yes the rally will be dusty and hard work at times. It certainly isn't for everyone, but for those that do take part, it will be a hugely rewarding experience."

Individual teams will be hosting events in the run up to the rally to help raise the necessary funds to take part.
