Starting From…Now!

Australia's most exciting multi-platform drama Starting From…Now! is the first Australian produced lesbian series to air on Australian television, with seasons 4 and 5 currently screening as TV half hours on SBS 2. The next screening will take place on Monday 21 March at 9.15pm.

Exploring the lives of four inner-Sydney lesbians as they struggle to work out who they are, find a place where they belong, and maybe even find someone to love along the way, Starting From…Now! has accumulated over 21 million views online and previous seasons are available for catch up on SBS On Demand.

SBS2 Head of Programming Caleb James welcomed the series to the network: 'As part of our commitment to promoting and celebrating diversity on screen, we're excited to be taking a series that's resonated so strongly within Sydney's LGBTQI community to new audiences around Australia both on TV and online."

He also congratulated the show on their coveted Audience Award for Best Narrative at Queer Screen's Mardi Gras Film Festival 2016. 'I'm thrilled that Starting From… Now! has won the audience award at this year's Mardi Gras Film Festival – the energy at the screening and Q+A was palpable and there's clearly a lot of love for the characters that Julie has created," he continued.

Mardi Gras Film Festival Director Paul Struthers said " At Queer Screen we make sure that we support local talent, thus it was an honour to screen the World Premiere of Starting From… Now! Season 4. The reaction from the audience in that session was outstanding, and it has rightfully won the audience award. I must thank Director Julie Kalceff, and Producer/Actress Rosie Lourde for creating this wonderful series, and Queer Screen is very excited to see what is coming next."

Series creator Julie Kalceff added: 'it was such a thrill to see the whole of Season 4 with an audience and hear them respond to both the drama and comedy at different points throughout. Seeing Starting From…Now! move from the web to cinema and then onto TV has been an incredible experience."
