The Silent Crisis - Protect Your Child
THIS NEW BOOK PROVIDES WAYS TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM SEXUAL ABUSE
A new book aimed at those responsible for raising and educating children, detailing simple ways to protect children from sexual abuse.
‘The Silent Crises’ by author and mother-of-two, Amanda Robinson, is sure to generate new and
fresh thinking in the minds off all who read it, as this ex-police officer in the Northern Territory Child
Sexual Abuse Unit questions conventional methods of ‘normal’ parenting practices that can leave
children vulnerable to abuse.
"I am very passionate about opening the way for a shift in perception about providing a more
supportive and nurturing environment for children," Ms Robinson said.
"We need to ensure that we are doing everything we can to create a peaceful and safe environment
for children and I feel that there are some traditional methods of raising children that really stand out
as ‘danger areas’ for child sexual abuse."
Amanda, who now lives in Western Australia has spent five years researching and writing ‘The Silent
Crisis’ which covers some of the myths and misconceptions about paedophiles and child molesters
as well as common characteristics of paedophiles and how they typically operate.
Amanda also illustrates an in-depth understanding of the dynamics involved in child sexual abuse,
including the physical, emotional and spiritual wounds that are inflicted upon its young victims. This is
exemplified particularly in the chapter discussing how sexual abuse and trauma impacts the
developing brain.
Easy and practical ideas and strategies are provided throughout the book to safeguard children as
much as possible from the dangers of sexual predators including how to teach children to be aware
of what is happening around them and to assist them in making sensible decisions based on what
they see and feel, rather than social conditioning, fear and ignorance.
Communication and fostering trust in children is given a particular emphasis as well as trusting both
your own and the child’s intuition.
"A good understanding of internal feelings requires trust in oneself as well as a healthy self-esteem
and ‘The Silent Crises’ was written to help people develop simple steps to create loving and trusting
relationships with children of all ages," Ms Robinson said.
"The book can be thought of as a guide to raise awareness of potential dangers to children. It
questions some of the usual child-rearing practices that most of us take for granted but which may be
contributing to our children’s vulnerability to the child sexual predator, offering new ideas and
strategies to consider."
A checklist of things to look out for if child sexual abuse is suspected as well as guiding principles for
developing a family safety plan are also included in the book which finishes with an astonishingly
simple theory for ending child sexual abuse altogether.
