On the first day of Christmas, the Island gave to me, an owl in a Lilly Pilly tree...

Australia's Christmas Island is home to hundreds of species of birds, native plants and wildlife, many of which are not found anywhere else in the world. In this version of the much-loved Christmas carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas, we count down to Christmas and celebrate the unique birds that live on this wild and remote island.

From the bright-red plumage of the Frigatebird to the iridescent green of the Emerald Dove, these vibrant birds capture the essence of the festive season, making The Twelve Days of Christmas Island a uniquely Australian Christmas book to be cherished and read year after year.

Teresa Lagrange's first real piece of art was a mural in crayon of Winnie-the-Pooh and friends all over her bedroom wall when she was three. Since then, a love of children's literature and art has been with her. Teresa Lagrange grew up in a big Irish Catholic family - the youngest of nine children. Being a shy, soft-spoken kid, creativity gave her much needed comfort and confidence. A love for animals came at an early age, and birds are of particular interest. She enjoys learning about all the different species in the world from cardinals to kiwis.

Teresa has worked for the Portland Museum of Art, University of Southern Maine, and the University of Connecticut. She lives in the United States in Portland, Maine with her husband and two children, and Sunny the dog and cats, Hermione, and Yoshi.
