Thomston x Wafia Window Seat

Thomston and Wafia have released their incredible collaboration, -Window Seat' which premiered on Triple J's -Good Nights' with Linda Marigliano last week to rave reviews.

Thomston is Auckland based 20-year-old singer and song-writing producer Thomas Stoneman, who has garnered over 15 million Spotify streams and international media attention since his debut EP release in 2014.  Wafia is Wafia Al-Rikabi, 22-year-old Brisbane-based songwriter and vocalist, who released her debut EP XXIX on Future Classic last year featuring breakthrough single -Heartburn', to Australian and international acclaim. Wafia embarks on her national XXIX EP Tour this week, where Thomston will join her on stage to perform -Window Seat' to sold-out crowds.

"We wrote this in a dark little studio in a foreign city on the first day we had ever met. I produced it on my crumbling laptop, using some grainy samples from Wafia's voice memos and when we played it all back it made me feel 100-feet tall." – Thomston

"It's about a relationship where one is bottling their thoughts and feelings, and is now trying to run away from a relationship that doesn't serve or truly know her. The other side is a guy who has no idea what is happening but has made of habit of speaking on her behalf." – Wafia

Thomston is the solo alias of prodigious 20-year-old singer and song-writing producer Thomas Stoneman. Already compared with the likes of Frank Ocean and SOHN – on top of receiving over 12 million Spotify plays – Thomston was London born but raised all his life in Titirangi, Auckland. Growing up, music was synonymous with the enforced-tuition of classical piano by his parents, and so he skipped the Top 40 in favour of whatever his shape-shifting childhood interests found their next outlet in (from acting, film-making to writing). One day, the offer to enter a nationwide song-writing competition got passed round school, and Thomston's restless attention-span focused in on the smooth and melodic nineties-to-noughties R&B, which his classical roots had once soured a love for. He won the competition, but the greater gain – the confidence and curiosity to write unique Pop songs – was still to come. His material, from 2014's 'Argonaut' EP to last year's 'Backbone' release, offer a brooding snapshot of suburban teenage transitions, and act as "the perfect introduction to an intriguing new artist" (Fader).

Wafia is Wafia Al-Rikabi, 22-year-old Brisbane-based songwriter and vocalist. After making considerable buzz with the release of her debut XXIX EP in 2015, which features her impressively smooth single -Heartburn', Wafia will commence her national XXIX EP Tour this March – her first headline shows to date. The tour follows a stunning run of live summer shows alongside long-time collaborator Ta-ku at Field Day, Beyond The Valley, and LA's Neuehouse Gallery. The pair also played -Heartburn' together at a special one-off session at the MoMA PS1 in New York. See the video directed by Nic Wrathal shot at New York's MoMA Gallery here. Wafia also featured on -Breathe In' with Japanese Wallpaper, and Charles Murdoch's -Frogs' alongside Ta-ku and Hak. Wafia also recently teamed up with Ta-ku once more with a #1 Hype Machine accredited cover of Kanye West and Estelle's -American Boy' (re-titled -American Girl') which is available to stream here.
