Tough Love and Tantrums.
Tough Love and Tantrums
Aussies love to watch reality TV contestants be put through their paces
and given tough love but 71% of Australian women say they would prefer
gentle positive reinforcement over a tough love approach in helping them
stick to a diet or weight loss program, according to an independent
survey of women conducted on behalf of Jenny Craig. The independent
survey commisioned on behalf of Jenny Craig, 1200 Australian woman were
surveyed between the ages of 18-65 years of age, most saying that they
wanted to lose weight.
"95% of Australian women are dieting
alone and only 2% succeed in achieving their weight loss goal", says
leading dietitian Karen Inge APD "and yet 78% of these women do believe
having someone monitor and motivate them would help them stick to a diet
or weight loss program." Karen Inge explains "There is a clear
message that women need help. The biggest reason they gave for diets not
working or why they put the weight back on was that they had no will
power. They get bored and frustrated because they're doing it alone."
"Having someone on the journey with them, providing positive
reinforcement, support and advice is the key to long term change and
success." Karen explained further.

Karen Inge
clarified that "Intense work outs and strict inflexible diets with
someone yelling or chastising you through the stages may achieve short
term results but they don't necessarily address the fundamental issues."
"People who are overweight have a diverse range of reasons for being
that way and these issues need to be addressed and continuously
monitored if any program is going to be successful." "Starting a weight
loss program is a decision to change your life, it's about getting real
and finding real solutions that work for long term success. It's also
about being happier, healthier and more confident so you can live the
life you want to live."
