The Summit is the only event in the UK dedicated to uniting and supporting the country's contemporary live music industry.
The conference aims to help companies and individuals directly involved in stage events, operating venues and representing artistes grow their businesses through expanded knowledge, broader contacts and a reinforced self-belief.
It also serves to help others within sectors such as brand marketing, media and new technologies, aiming to access the live sector, get to know the industry and network with key players.
This, the fifth Summit, will feature some radical change in the programme, with more panels, keynotes and networking opportunities.

One man... creating an International brand!
Peter Alexander is a true entrepreneur. Founder of 'Peter Alexander Sleepwear', Peter grew the company from a single man operation on his living room table, to an internationally recognised sleepwear business and household name. At the peak of the business, when it was growing by 40% a year and having international success, Peter sold his company to the 'Just Group'. Today, he still manages the on-line part of the business.
The Peter Alexander story is both compelling and inspiring. At age 24, Peter decided to be his own boss. Like many before him, the start-up phase was difficult, so what did he do and how did he do it? What mistakes did he make, what did he learn and would he do it all the same again? Are there 'secrets' to building brand loyalty? Clearly he has the answers.
This event will not only showcase the business acumen of an Australian business icon, but will also provide plentiful opportunities for attendees to network. Great RACV Accommodation door-prize also on offer!

'All Bets Are Off'
For more than 11 years, David Schwarz played a courageous and determined brand of football. Nick-named the 'Ox', he played 173 games for the Melbourne Football Club, winning the Demons 'Best and Fairest' in 1999.
Since retiring, David has pursued an active media career, co-hosting the sports radio program 'The Run Home' and is also a part of Channel 7's AFL commentary team.
The David Schwarz story so far has many highs and lows. From the adoration of fans at the height of his football success, to the admission that over the year's he had lost over $4million through gambling, it is difficult not to marvel at the now reformed Schwarz.
In 2007, the Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group appointed David as their Responsible Gambling Ambassador and, in 2008, he was once again welcomed back to AFL football, as the Bulldogs Forward Line Coach.
With honesty and clarity, David will provide a rare insight into his experiences both on and off the football field, and how, with determination and courage, obstacles and challenges can be transformed into new opportunities.

We may all know that obesity is a global epidemic but according to recent Australian research it continues to rise significantly each year. Obesity is considered a high-risk factor in five of the eight National Health Priority Areas1 and drugs, both prescription and over the counter, play a role in its treatment. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, colorectal cancer, and osteoarthritis, with detrimental impacts on quality of life.
Concern regarding impact of obesity is reflected in the increased NHMRC funding to support research from nearly $2.5 million in 2000 to nearly $23 million in 2008. All of the speakers are actively involved in research in this area and will present their latest findings and give the audience the opportunity to discuss and ask questions.

July 14th
At the Leadership in Times of Crisis workshop, executive-level managers will be invited to reflect on their own management challenges as they hear from two globally respected leaders operating in arguably the toughest game of all - law enforcement.
As Chief of Police in New Orleans, Superintendent Warren J. Riley managed the hurculean task of putting New Orleans back together after Hurricane Katrina. The Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) and ANZ today announced a series of free financial skills seminars to be held in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide for women to help boost their confidence when dealing with money issues.
The ANZ Be Money Confident seminars will be held as part of the FPA's Financial Planning Week (FP Week)
The seminars have been developed following research by ANZ that revealed women generally have lower levels of confidence when making decisions about money. Almost two-thirds of women surveyed (62%) said they do not have a plan in place to achieve their financial goals because they felt 'overwhelmed' about their finances or 'did not know where to begin'.
FPA CEO, Ms Jo-Anne Bloch said it was important for women to feel confident when it comes to money, especially in this challenging economic environment.
Certified Financial Planners who are members of the FPA will present at the seminars in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. Three seminars will be held in each location targeted at three different age groups, and will cover areas such as budgeting, tips for young professionals, financial makeovers and retirement.

All travellers are welcome to a one-day seminar on Sunday 27 July 2008 at the National Maritime Museum which brings together well-travelled speakers to share tales and traditions of keepsake collecting while trying to answer what is trash and what is treasure when it comes to souvenirs.
Tony Wheeler, co-founder of Lonely Planet, will discuss the extravagance of souveniring and his own obsession with collecting "better quality tourist art".
"So often it isn't how good the Tibetan carpet is that makes it so memorable, it's that you bought it directly from a Tibetan carpet shop in Patan in Nepal, strapped it on to the carrier on the back of your bike and then paddled back with it to your hotel in Kathmandu," said Tony Wheeler.
He will be joined by Australian author and historian Richard White, University Professor and collector Peter Spearitt and travel ephemera collector Daryl Mills.
Held in association with our latest exhibition Trash or Treasure? Souvenirs of travel.

2008 Retail Expo Australasia
Venue
Halls 1 and 2, Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre
Australian consumers are becoming more environmentally conservative, according to a recent study released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics*, and retailers are equally becoming more aware of the importance of adopting green practices for their businesses.
In response to this Retail Expo Australasia, 12-14 August 2008, Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, has launched an all new Eco Retailer zone to meet consumer demands for environmentally friendly retail outlets and practices.
Aiming to reduce the retail industry's ecological footprint, the new Eco Retailer section will showcase the latest green innovations, concepts and strategies available in national and international markets.
"Because we are all consumers, retailers can't afford to ignore the need to adopt environmentally considerate practices and services, as well as offer green products to their customers, regardless of whether they are huge department stores or independent outlets," said Peter O'Flynn, Exhibition Manager, Retail Expo Australasia.
"Australians are fast becoming more environmentally aware and Retail Expo Australasia has responded to that with Eco Retailer to ensure retail industry members are at the forefront of their game."
The Eco Retailer zone will feature alongside seven other key product areas, including Retail Technology; Shopfitting and Store Design; Security Technology; Business Services; Digital Signage; and Visual Merchandising.
Returning to Sydney after two years in Melbourne, Retail Expo Australasia will feature more than 220 local and international exhibitors, many who will use the exhibition as a platform to launch new products, innovations and technologies.
With an anticipated 6,500 visitors, including key decision makers, buyers and managers, the exhibition is the must attend trade event for retailers who are keen to ensure their business is environmentally friendly, technologically savvy, aesthetically chic and constantly increasing profit margins.
Retail Expo Australasia will be held in conjunction with Australia's premier retail conference National Retail Forum.

The Sixth Regional Arts Australia National Conference to be held in Alice Springs in October has began taking registrations.
Artistic Director and Conference Coordinator, Kieren Sanderson, says the national conference is expected to be the largest gathering of arts professionals in Australia this year. "With the conference less than six months away, I urge people planning on attending to book their spot early," Ms Sanderson says. "We're offering early birds who sign up now a cheaper deal on their registration. "We are expecting a big response from those keen to participate and we may have to limit numbers so if you're planning to attend, sign up early to make sure you don't miss out, and of course there's a saving if you get in early.
"Art at the heart will take place at venues across Alice Springs giving delegates the opportunity to meet the local community and provide a memorable experience for everyone," says Ms Sanderson. The secretary of Regional Arts Australia, Ken Lloyd, says art at the heart follows Regional Arts Australia's outstanding 2006 national conference in Mackay Queensland, which attracted a record number of delegates. "Through art at the heart, Regional Arts Australia continues its leadership role representing, promoting and supporting the artists and audiences that live outside the metropolitan centres."
Highlights of the art at the heart festival program include the opening ceremony on Thursday 2 October, a gala conference dinner on Saturday 4 October and the evening hot spot, the Heart Club, which will be open to both the public and delegates on the Thursday and Friday nights.

The Going Green Expo 2008 - staged by Australasian Exhibitions & Events - will open at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre on World Environment Day, Thursday 5 June, 2008. The four day event will provide businesses and consumers alike with the opportunity to explore a wide range of 'green' consumables, commercial products and technologies which offer a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to life in the workplace and at home.
"Our vision for Going Green is to provide a complete a to z of sustainable solutions in the one place and in doing so, to demonstrate how achievable and cost effective ' going green' can be," commented Going Green Event Manager, Anthony Doran.
"As more and more 'green' products and solutions come onto the market, it's becoming easier to draw cost comparisons between the environmental 'nasties' and 'friendlies' that are available and to see how you can actually save money and the environment by being green," he added.
Going green is not just an important social issue; it has become a social responsibility and priority on our political agenda and as such, is of concern to all Australians.
The Going Green Expo is designed to accelerate awareness of environmental issues and demonstrate how going green is easier than ever before - with modern technology and the latest developments that don't cost the earth being showcased at the event.
The Going Green Expo will showcase products and solutions for everything from agriculture, air quality, recycling & waste, carbon trading & offset programs and cleaning, to clothing, textiles, design, food & beverage, health & beauty, office supplies, organic produce, travel and eco tourism and green IT. In short, everything imaginable that is 'green' and environmentally sustainable will be on show.
Expo highlights include 'The Green Village Pavilion', sponsored by Village Green, 'Go Organic' food, wine and beer , the Green IT feature and a comprehensive of free seminars from industry experts and much, much more.
A series of free seminars will be held on the show floor covering a range of topics such as climate change, carbon trading and practical applications for sustainability in the work place and at home. A number of case studies and 'how to' presentations will also give business visitors and consumers tips and insight into the easy ways to 'go green'.
"If you are serious about reducing your environmental footprint in business or at home and finding out about the environmentally responsible choices available, then a visit to the Going Green Expo is a must. This event will offer a 'one stop shop' for accessing the information, ideas, products and solutions to help everyone to do their bit to make our world a greener, healthier place for the future" Mr Doran concluded.

No matter where you're working or what you're doing now, a strategic approach to managing your career is critical. And you need to understand the unwritten rules, the politics and how the games are played - especially as you move up the executive ladder.
Maria Robbins can help you create that strategic approach using a series of fundamental tools that will equip you for any role. Maria will discuss how to influence key decision makers, the rules for 'playing the game' and how to make the most of a bad situation. She will also talk about starting a family and balancing a career afterwards.
A Williamson Leadership Foundation Fellow with a wealth of hands on corporate experience, Maria now runs a successful human resources company. has met and worked for some brilliant people, has made mistakes and learned many lessons about people and the workplace along the way. She draws on interesting anecdotes from her own career - such as how she gained a promotion during the latter stage of pregnancy! - as well as giving practical, expert advice for managing your career.

The workshops will be restricted to a maximum of 25 people. Companies will be restricted to one participant each in the workshop program. Ideally, the nominated attendee should attend each workshop however substitutes are acceptable.

Technology One had a participant at the first workshop series who provided the following assessment:
Quote: "The 4 sessions were conducted in a open environment where all members were introduced to the formal tendering processes of government and the informal activities that should be considered when bidding on Victorian ICT tenders, panels etc. Of particular benefit was the opportunity to listen to senior members of the Victorian government discuss there experiences and recommend proven and preferred methods to engage with Government. In addition to this, several organisations that have achieved success with the Victorian Government presented their philosophies for success and detailed the activities they have found successful.
Most importantly, the workshops provided the opportunity to network with senior government decision makers and build vital contacts for ongoing discussions. I would recommend that any SME looking to develop a strong and proven strategy for bidding on Government ICT opportunities attend the AIIA Working with Government courses".

Imagine a workplace more flexible, more productive, and more cost effective. Imagine being able to communicate with your clients and colleagues from anywhere, at any time. Imagine co-ordinating your team from another state or country. This is no longer an imaginary scenario Evirtual working is now an established workstyle.
With the recent boom in the use of mobile technology Australian companies are taking advantage of being a national and/or global player by utilising virtual and remote working with amazing benefits; including increased methods of communication, decreased costly and time consuming travel and expanded opportunities to reach new clients, suppliers and partners locally, regionally and globally.
International expert on virtual and remote work, Dr John Gundry of Knowledge Ability, UK, will visit Brisbane in August as one of two internationally renowned keynote speakers at Going Virtual Ethe Future of Work, the first Asia-Pacific conference on remote, virtual working.
"Work is something we do, not a place we go toEsays Dr. Gundry, "We have to find some way to stop spending our lives in cars and aeroplanes. We need to reclaim time for ourselves through working remotely rather than travelling.E........... www.tni-australia.com
