Cameron Avery C'est Toi

From his relentless touring exploits with POND and Tame Impala, to his two-man expedition Allbrook/Avery and the birth of his first brainchild The Growl, Perth-bred/LA-based artist Cameron Avery today reveals his single and accompanying visual translation -C'est Toi.' Premiered on Pitchfork this morning along with the announcement that he has signed with iconic US label ANTI (Wilco, Tom Waits), the single was recorded with American musician and producer Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Erykah Badu, Elvis Costello) and follows recent support slots for luminaries The Last Shadow Puppets and Father John Misty.

Written about the last time he fell in love, -C'est Toi' is charged with a raw sense of nostalgia, paired with lyrics laden in a romantic debris. Recorded at Fivestar Studio, Avery worked alongside long-time friend Jonathan Wilson (credits include Father John Misty - Honeybear), who initially encouraged the creation of vocally driven body of work. The single marked the first time Avery had worked with a co-producer across a project.

Shot between New York and LA, the accompanying clip was directed by JOY Collective's dynamic duo Mike Bennet & Nathan Lewis and saw production treatment from Mood Studio. The late night guerrilla filming sessions, starring New York-based actors Mara DaCostareis and Aris Schwabe, accentuate the fragility and honesty of the track, transporting the viewer to a very intimate truth/journey between two lovers.

Having made Los Angeles his base and creative playground over the past two years, his solo aesthetic, first teased with track -We're Just Making It Worse' Ft Alexandria Savior' is clear, ambitious and cinematic, likening more to influences such as Serge Gainsbourg and Lee Hazelwood and stepping away from the carnal, distortion-soaked sound of The Growl record 'What Would Christ Do??'.
