Carrol Boyes Salad Servers Range

When Art Meets Functionality

The Salad Servers Woman/Man are a gorgeous gift inspired by the human form and made from pewter were interestingly Carrol's first product, in the range.

The Classic Salad Servers will appeal to the younger customer base as they are made from stainless steel (which can go in the dishwasher).

Renowned South African artist and designer Carrol Boyes has created the perfect balance between art and function in her unique gift and homeware range. The company designs, manufactures and distributes an extensive range of over 1,000 hand-crafted metal homeware, giftware, flatware and tabletop products. The inspiration behind these unique items come from both the human form and the beauty of nature.

The Carrol Boyes brand has changed their business model to expand its presence in the Australian market. They have set up an Australian company to respond to the needs of local customers. The company now has a stocked, third-party warehouse in Sydney, to enable quicker delivery times.

'We are excited that the exquisite Carrol Boyes range is now even more accessible for Australian consumers," says Caryn Hanley, Director of Carrol Boyes Australia. 'The changes to the business model mean that Australians will receive their orders quicker than before. With Christmas just around the corner, the range is ideal for mums, grandparents, art lovers, foodies and anyone looking for quirky homeware gifts."

'I love the three-dimensional quality of sculpture, in the abstract way that beautiful shapes marry with human form," says Carrol Boyes.

'I also love creating sculptures that can have a utilitarian function in the home and office as well. One thing we all share is our humanity, no matter what the differences are in our culture or aesthetic. By commenting on and portraying the human form and human emotion in my work, I am able to touch many people across the world. We all enjoy sharing a meal with the people we love, wherever we are, and hopefully the joy of the occasion and food is further enhanced by the humorous and sensual utensils we make."

There are three main metals used to create the Carrol Boyes range – lead free pewter, aluminium and stainless steel. Ceramics, leather, glass and wood are also utilised. Lead free pewter has soft and malleable properties, so it is easily hand crafted into unique and aesthetically pleasing creations for everyday use in the home. These timeless pieces are easy to clean in hot soapy water, then rinsed and dried with a soft cloth. Aluminium is a light, yet strong metal that is extremely durable, making it the ideal material for large bowls, lamps, sculptural vases and furniture. Stainless steel is durable, requires little maintenance and won't rust or stain, giving the products a long-lasting appeal.

The products are designed by Carrol and her design term in her Cape Town Studio. Each piece is handmade, unique and crafted to meet the highest quality standards, then hand polished before being packed. Once the products are finished, they are quality controlled in Cape Town. All local and international orders are dispatched from the company headquarters in Cape Town.

Currently the brand designs between 100 and 200 items a year, with Carrol personally designing about 70% of the products. The Carrol Boyes range is available throughout South Africa and in more than 28 countries around the world. It is widely distributed in the United States and is popular in the United Kingdom, Canada, the Middle East, Australasia, Asia, Scandinavia, Europe and other parts of Africa.
