Interview with Johnny Diesel

Question: What is unique about The Light Tour 2012?

Johnny Diesel: The "Into The Light" tour gives me an opportunity to answer a lot of the questions people have been asking me over the years. It gives me a chance to play the most requested, least played songs.

Question: What's the best thing about being on tour?

Johnny Diesel: Being able to play so many shows back to back, the momentum from that there is no substitute for and although the travel is exhausting at times, being in a different place every day is stimulating to the senses.

Question: What are some of your most requested songs played in act 1?

Johnny Diesel: There are so many songs that people have suggested through our social media, I have tried to look at all the requests and correlate a list to play, there are a few titles that seem to reoccur - "Battleworn", "Angel Face", "Darling Of The Universe" to name a few…

Question: Tell us about The Bright Lights, act 2?

Johnny Diesel: "The Bright Lights" part of the set is an attempt to get to the singles I have released over time, edging towards 30 odd singles now it's impossible to play them all but I try to play enough so there isn't a "lynching" after the show!

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Johnny Diesel: Anything and everything is what I listen to; a lot of War Paint and Alabama Shakes at the moment.

Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Johnny Diesel: Thankfully not, that isn't to say I've wondered what I was doing at the time, for instance, when I had to sneak into my parents' house to grab my cello (played from age 8-14) so I could take it to a pawn shop to get cash to buy guitar strings that week, that was a dark moment.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Johnny Diesel: I don't think I would be happy just doing one without the other. The simpatico of creating something then taking it out to the world, being able to watch it develop in to something different on the road, it's a cycle I enjoy very much.

Question: When writing, where do you find inspiration?

Johnny Diesel: People that you meet, past present and future (myself included), sometimes a place or material thing but inevitably these will be linked with someone.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Johnny Diesel: Working with great people and learning from them and being in the position to play on a regular basis, I know I am lucky to have an occupation that gives so much back to me.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Johnny Diesel: That's a tough question because there are so many but I'd have to say B.B King, just to trade a few licks or should I say give a few licks back to him!

Question: If you weren't in the music industry what would you be doing?

Johnny Diesel: Music and medicine seem to run in my family, I like to think they are similar with music having a medicinal effect, I may have followed others in my family.

Question: Do you have a website fans can visit?

Johnny Diesel: www.Dieselmusic.com.au
