Emily Wurramara Ementha-Papaguneray (Turtle Song)

The release of Emily's Debut Ep -Black Smoke' earlier this year invited the nation into her world of culture, language and life as a young Indigenous woman. Ementha-Papaguneray (Turtle Song), is Emily's newest release and the third single to be lifted from her debut EP -Black Smoke'.
 
Sung in Anindilyakwa (annen-dilly-yark-wah), the traditional language of her home on Groote Eylandt, NT, Ementha-Papaguneray is made up of two traditional childrens songs, Ementha which means turtle in Anindilyakwa and Papaguneray translating to swim or fun and play.
 

 
Ementha-Papaguneray has already been added to rotation on ABC Local Radio and launched by Bandviews in October in support of Greenpeace's, -Save the Reef Campaign'. Emily is a proud Greenpeace ambassador and committed to educating the country on reef pollution and coral bleaching by making a stance for the thousands of species who depend on our reef for survival.
 

 
Ementha-Papaguneray follows the successes of Emily's debut single -Ngerraberrakernama' (released in March) which was added to rotation on ABC Local Radio, debuted #7 in the AMRAP metro charts before holding a top 10 position regionally for over a month, and trumping #1 late April. The track amassed airplay in every state and territory at stations including JJJ, ABC Radio National & ABC Local Radio to name some. The June release of her debut EP -Black Smoke' followed suit with title track -Black Smoke' being added to rotation on triple J and ABC Local while smashing the airwaves as ABC Radio National Breakfast album of the week, PBS feature record, RRR Soundscape feature, charting #1 on both AMRAP metro & regional charts and amounting to airplay on over 112 stations in 6 months.
 
Indeed, 2016 has been huge for Emily full stop. A 2x finalist in the Indigenous category and performer at the Queensland Music Awards in March, a New Talent finalist at the National Indigenous Music Awards in August, Triple J feature artist at BIGSOUND, a guest speaker on the BIGSOUND panel for AMRAP'S -The Future of Your Music' conference, and now ambassador for Greenpeace's -Save The Reef' Campaign.
