The Great Australian Bite 2004

The Great Australian Bite 2004
Music industry diva, Marcia Hines has joined the charity, Diabetes Australia, as Ambassador for it's annual fundraising campaign, The Great Australian Bite (GAB).

GAB is held every year during the month of April to raise funds and awareness for diabetes.

Australians across the country are invited to combine their two great passions - eating and helping a good cause, by 'sharing a bite'

Marcia Hines commented " I couldn't pass up an opportunity to support Diabetes Australia and be part of this fantastic event."

Each year thousands of Australians take part in GAB by simply gathering for a 'bite' to eat with family, friends or workmates anytime during April 2004. The 'bite' itself can be anything from a coffee break at work to a picnic in the park or perhaps a BBQ - the choice is yours. 'Bite' participants are encouraged to make a donation to raise money for diabetes awareness, research, education programs and advocacy services.

The Basic GAB ingredients are: * Friends * Food * Fun

Mix them together and what do you get? A great time with friends, good food and a chance to help the fight against the world's largest epidemic.

The disease affects 1.2 million Australians, half of whom are unaware of their condition. An alarming 1500 people are diagnosed each week. Diabetes Australia predicts that if this rate continues approximately 1.8 million Australians will have diabetes by 2010. Diabetes Australia is the leading charity dealing with diabetes.

To be a part of this fun and vital fundraising event, register to host a "bite" by calling 1-300-136-588 or go to www.diabetesaustralia.com.au.
