Garden Design Series

Garden Design Series

The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney's 2018 Garden Design Series kicks off on 8 March 2018 and will be led by three of Australia's leading landscape architects and designers.

Tickets are on sale now to the fourth series of talks on stunning gardens, architecture and inspirational public and private landscapes.

Speakers Daniel Baffsky, Michael Cooke and Jane Irwin will explore private gardens, cutting-edge contemporary design, breaking boundaries, and commercial projects that enhance how we live as an urban community seeking interaction with nature.

The final night in June will be a discussion led by a panel of designers and facilitated by Dream Gardens presenter Michael McCoy.

The lectures will be held at the Royal Automobile Club of Australia in Macquarie Street, Sydney, hosted by Paul Nicholson for the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

Daniel Baffsky,

Thursday 8 March
Daniel has developed 360° into an award-winning practice, highly regarded for innovative design, cultural sensitivity and ecological integrity, with projects striving to effect positive change for better living. Daniel's lecture -Heritage Modern' will explore the design process of three contemporary landscapes by 360°, including Australian PlantBank at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. Each has a unique heritage narrative, inviting discussion on the challenges of balancing the best of old and new.

Michael Cooke
Thursday 12 April

With experience as a horticulturist, nursery owner (with a love of rare and unusual plants), journalist and author, Michael has a successful design practice. Regardless of size, from city courtyards to acreages, he aims to achieve unique landscapes with warmth of character. Michael's lecture will celebrate the concept of -disobedient gardens', with a discussion about how his designs allow plants to go their natural seasonal way, with the balance of a degree of structure.

Jane Irwin

A leader in the field of landscape architecture in New South Wales, Jane's practice JILA has collected a raft of awards. Honoured by the Australian Design Centre for her contribution to the design of cities, her work ranges from courtyards to large scale public spaces, with a process based on an understanding of place. Jane's talk will explore the wilder side of gardening, from design ideas to construction, and how the designer, site and end user mesh in the creative process.

Panel of Designers
