Jordan Rasko The Axis of Awesome Interview

Global musical comedy sensations The Axis of Awesome return to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2014. This year they will be spoiling the beautiful surrounds of Famous Spiegeltent at Federation Square with their unique brand of hilarious musical comedy that has had audiences around the world laughing their faces right off their hinges… Their face hinges.

2014 marks the multi-award winners' sixth MICF season, and this year they will debut their brand new live show, 'Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas", promising a solid mixture of spanking new tunes and classic Axis hits.

Described by the Herald Sun as 'the new benchmark in musical comedy", The Axis of Awesome launched a brilliant career in 2008 at MICF, earning the 2008 Moosehead Award and going on to win three Time Out Awards in the Sydney Comedy Festival: Best Show (2010 & 2011) and Best Australian Talent (2010). They now regularly perform sold-out shows all over the globe to five star reviews, including The Forum at last year's MICF.

Their video of 'The Four Chords Song" live at the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival has received nearly 30 million hits and is one of the highest rated comedy videos on YouTube. Songs from their 2013 hit show, 'Cry YOURSELF a River" have already received over 2.5 million YouTube hits.

In 'Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas" the talented trio will deliver more high-energy comedy that will leave you 'in stitches, hooting for an encore" (The Age). It sounds SO good, you'll be lining up to buy their CDs at the end of the show!

Interview with Jordan Rasko

Question: Why should audiences choose to see The Axis of Awesome Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas over other comedy festival shows?

Jordan Rasko: Life is a constant journey and we can't tell you which choices are right and which are wrong in any given situation. Except for this one. Seeing our show is the right thing to do, and only once you see it will you know the reason why.

Question: What should audiences expect from the show?

Jordan Rasko: Complete and total enlightenment and transcendence to a higher plane of existence and one-ness with all of nature's creations. And an hour of funny songs as well I suppose.

Question: Can you talk about what inspired the Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas show?

Jordan Rasko: You know those sheets of paper they put over the trays in McDonalds so you don't spill food on the tray itself? One of those.

Question: How does Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas differ from your past shows?

Jordan Rasko: We've replaced all references to Kevin Rudd with updated references to Julia Gillard. Then back to Rudd and finally to Tony Abbott. That and we'll be wearing less clothes.

Question: How long does it take to prepare for a show such as this?

Jordan Rasko: For the audience: a lifetime. For us: about 2 1/2 minutes.

Question: What are you looking forward to most about touring Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas?

Jordan Rasko: All of the money we'll make.

Question: Can you talk about the role you play in The Axis of Awesome?

Jordan Rasko: I play the character of "Lee", many people think I'm based on the person Lee Naimo who I am in real life, but "Lee" is actually based more on a combination of Whoopi Goldberg, Leonardo DiCaprio and a skeleton warrior named "Calcior". "Lee" is also the smartest and sexiest in the band by a long margin.

Question: How did you come together and form The Axis of Awesome?

Jordan Rasko: We were all individual contestants on UK talent show "the X Factor" and Simon Cowell said we were terrible on our own but we'd be even worse as a group, so we formed One Direction.

Question: What's the story behind the name The Axis of Awesome?

Jordan Rasko: It's a play on the well-known phrase "the Axis of Doctor Parnassus".
