Interview with Mel Robbins

Question: What can listeners expect from Kick Ass with Mel Robbins?

Mel Robbins: What happens when you pick eight people from around the world and fly them to Boston for a private coaching session with yours truly? You get the brand new advice show "Kick Ass With Mel Robbins."

You're going to hear real people with real problems experiencing real change that's happening live while you listen. These are some of the most profound, life-changing, and hard-hitting conversations you'll ever hear. The show is packed with no-B.S., life-changing advice for people dealing with everything from procrastination to anxiety and alcoholism to weight loss.

You will laugh, cry, and cheer as these brave (and hilarious) souls do the work to learn what's been holding them back and learn how to start moving forward in their lives. The lessons from the coaching sessions are then applied back to your own life–helping you to ignite your own breakthrough.

Why is the show called "Kick Ass"? Because that's totally what these sessions are. A kick in the ass; a wake up call. As these eight incredibly courageous, fun, and authentic souls work through their deepest struggles, you will grow alongside them and no doubt be inspired by their stories... and they are definitely stories for adults only, as the coaching sessions contain adult themes, language, and advice.

I cannot wait for you to listen to it when it goes live on May 8th only on Audible.

Question: How does Kick Ass with Mel Robbins work like a private coaching session?

Mel Robbins: Kick Ass is unlike any other book. It's an audio-only talk show featuring private coaching sessions with eight people. These folks came to me looking for help with problems that range from simple to serious–problems that almost every single one of us can resonate with. I guarantee you'll see yourself in almost every single one of them.

After you listen to each coaching session–and laugh and cry along with us–you'll hear exactly how you can apply the lessons from that coaching session into your own life.

In each session, you'll learn a number of highly specific and actionable tools that you can start using right now to improve your life.

We've also created something really cool for you–it's a workbook that will help you start applying everything you've owned into your life. It's totally free to anyone who downloads Kick Ass and you can find it at MelRobbins.com/kickass.

Question: Should we have listened to The 5-Second Rule prior to Kick Ass with Mel Robbins?

Mel Robbins: Absolutely not. Kick Ass with Mel Robbins came about in the first place because The 5 Second Rule was so successful that people were asking for more content.

However, Kick Ass is an entirely different format–it's a new kind of advice talk show.

It's not a sequel but something entirely new.

Now, if you liked The 5 Second Rule, you're going to LOVE Kick Ass.

But if you're someone who wants to live a better life–and you want no bullshit real advice–Kick Ass is for you.

Question: What are some of the simple yet transformative tools included in Kick Ass with Mel Robbins that will take our work-life to the next level?

Mel Robbins: If you're looking for simple yet transformative tools, this show will give you the kick in the ass that you need.

As you listen, you're going to learn exactly how to get rid of your bad habits and create positive ones that serve you, you'll discover why you're holding yourself back–and what to do about it, you'll know exactly why you're not changing (even when you've been trying for years!), I'll teach you how to own your own unique story, and you'll learn the simple yet powerful framework of how to create your new chapter. There's an entire episode focused on how to take your business to the next level.

Question: Can you provide us with some of your top tips for taking our relationships to the next level?

Mel Robbins: In "Kick Ass With Mel Robbins," you're going to learn my top three tips for taking your relationships to the next level.

First: Be a fan.

I want you to cheer for other people. Elevate them. Let them know that they matter. Actually give a shit about other people. Focus on other people.

When you walk into a room, and you are not the loudest, but you're cheering the loudest for everybody else, you become loved.

When you go to a party and all you do is ask people questions about their lives, and you don't say a single thing about your own, even though when you leave you're going to be like, "Those motherfuckers didn't ask me anything about myself…"–you will be loved by everyone.

That is the simple secret to every single human being. It works for everybody, and anybody. Even the biggest curmudgeons on the planet. You pay attention to them, they love you. It'll work, and you can do it.

My second tip: Assume good intent.

You may hate this but it works. It's so easy to jump to conclusions and assume your loved ones are being a jerk to you. Being mean will never get you the relationships that you want.

If you can start assuming good intent, your relationships will change.

If your partner didn't do the dishes, before accusing him or her or being lazy, assume something good. Maybe the dishes didn't get done because he was wrapped up in work, or was busy, or forgot–not to spite you.

My third tip, which applies to intimate relationships: Treat your partner as you do your best friend.

In "Kick Ass with Mel Robbins," you'll meet a woman who had tons of incredible friendships–but had had a lifelong struggle with intimate relationships. One of her biggest realisations? She didn't treat her partner as well as she treated her friends.

Many of us are incredible friends but act shitty in our relationships. We forget that the best love affairs are ones where you're friends who have incredible sex. That's all that a relationship that really works is.

To your best friends, you're probably supportive, fun, uplifting, cheering them on, and making time for them. Do the same with your partner.
