LUSH Wins 2014 Australian Business Award for Environmental Sustainability

Leading ethical retailer LUSH Cosmetics has been awarded an Australian Business Award (ABA) for Environmental Sustainability for the second year in a row.

The award was bestowed in recognition of the leadership and commitment LUSH Cosmetics has displayed yet again to the enhancement, preservation and protection of the environment.

Since its earliest beginnings LUSH has taken environmental sustainability very seriously, employing a range of highly effective approaches to meet its ethical commitments and using an official Green Policy as a company pledge to ensure current and future sustainability improvements across all areas of the business.
All products are cruelty-free, minimally packaged and handmade locally from ethically sourced ingredients.

LUSH annually awards a significant prize of $450,000 (The LUSH Prize) to international leaders in Science, Training, Lobbying, Public Awareness, and Research working towards safe, viable alternatives to animal testing for consumer products. In the past six months alone, LUSH Australia has donated over $70,000 to 14 different grassroots organisations and is always on the look-out for new causes to support.

Since 2007, 100% of the purchase price (minus GST) of Charity Pot body lotion has supported a number of wonderful humanitarian, environmental and animal rights causes.

As part of this month's in-store ethical campaign to -Save Our Sharks,' all proceeds from Charity Pot and Sea Vegetable soap sales go to Sea Shepherd's campaign against Australia's brutal shark cull program. Customers will also be encouraged to sign an in-store petition and attend their nearest protest rally.
With initiatives like these, it's easy to see why LUSH is an award-winner.

Peta Granger, from LUSH Cosmetics Australia says, 'It's certainly an honour to win the award for Environmental Sustainability two years running now, but ultimately we would rather that it didn't exist. We would prefer to live in a world where environmental and sustainable business practices and decision making is the norm.

We feel very grateful to the staff within LUSH who work passionately on so many of our environmental projects and initiatives. We also want to thank our customers who choose the kind of world they want to live in through the businesses they support and things they spend their money on."

Since its establishment, LUSH Cosmetics has been driven by innovation and its ethics. Creators of pioneering beauty products such as the bath bomb, shower jellies and solid shampoo bars, LUSH places emphasis on fresh ingredients like organic fruits and vegetables. LUSH operates a strict policy against animal testing and supports fair trade and community trade initiatives. LUSH leads the cosmetics industry in combating over-packaging by running public awareness campaigns and developing products that can be sold -naked' to the consumer without any packaging.

There are 910 LUSH shops in 50 countries worldwide. In Australia, we employ over 300 people from sales staff in store and online who serve our customers to the teams hand-making our products in the

Sydney-based factory. There are 26 LUSH stores across the country, including our website LUSH.COM.AU.
In July, LUSH received an Australian Business Award for Environmental Sustainability for the second year in a row, in recognition of leadership and commitment to the enhancement, preservation and protection of the environment through policies and initiatives.
