Lost My Name

Established online store, Not in Shops, has added an exciting new item to its product portfolio - personalised children's book Lost My Name. Not in Shops prides itself on selling only the most unique and exclusive products that are not available in mainstream shops. Lost My Name is the perfect example of one such item, taking personalisation to a new creative level.

The book is a celebration of the thrill and unpredictability of life's journey. It tells the story of a child who has lost their name and bravely sets off to find the missing letters. The journey takes the child through a series of twists and turns and along the way, they meet a host of quirky characters.

"We are very excited to be promoting this book in Australia. It has been so successful overseas, selling 30,000 copies worldwide since April of last year and we feel that the Australian public are going to love it just as much," says Rachel Moore, Director and Founder of Not in Shops.

The book was written by three dads and an uncle, based in the UK and it began as a DIY project. One of the creators, Asi Sharabi, says, "Our aim was to take the idea of a personalised book and vastly improve on how it has ever been done before. Naturally we hadn't entirely realised how much time and effort this would take - but  isn't that the nature of any DIY project?"

"Firstly, we checked the UK 2011 census and saw that there were 14,000 children's names. Our first thought was 'Geez, that's a lot of names!' We realised we needed a personalised story for each one, which is exactly what we created."

"The lovely thing about this book is that each child's journey is different. There are a range of paths for them to take and different creatures for them to meet, making the adventure truly unique." says Asi.

"While little Henry might meet a hippo, an eagle, a nabarlek, a robot and a yeti, little Mia could meet a mermaid, an Inuit boy and an aardvark in order to recover her name."

"Of course, the personalised nature of this book meant that we had to write an astonishing number of pages and illustrations (over 150!) to make it work. It may look like an easy-to-read children's book but it felt like a novel. We're so happy with the outcome though and the real joy for us is seeing the smile of a child's face when they realise where their journey is leading them."

The project is 100% independent, totally self-published and wholly self-funded. The book is printed A4 size, landscape and digitally printed on thick, uncoated, environmentally-friendly paper. It is ideal for children aged between two years and six years.

Lost My Name is available in Australia from Not in Shops. RRP $33.95. Shipping is free worldwide.
