Money speaks louder than recognition

Aussies are becoming far more money hungry than ever before with most saying they prefer a higher salary over a promotion, working less hours or recognition according to a survey by human resource giant, Talent2.

The survey that questioned 1,960 Australian workers also revealed that those living and working in the ACT are the most likely in the nation to place importance on a salary increase, followed by those in WA, SA, and Queensland. Surprisingly enough, employees living in Victoria and NSW are amongst the least money conscious in the land.

Laura Mabikafola of Talent2 says people are working longer and harder than ever before, working hours are taking over leisure hours but it is patently obvious that people are prepared to put in the hard yards particularly if they are paid well.

"Workers are prepared to overlook other shortcomings, like occupational health and safety deficiencies, cultural problems, lack of good working conditions as long as they are very well compensated."

"The fact that Aussie workers have asked and been granted the ability to cash in their sick-leave is a telling sign that people are far more interested in money than in time away from work."
