National Study Reveals Women Fall Short of -Me-Time'

When it comes to relaxing and making time for ourselves, the majority of Australian women are neglecting time for themselves in favour of others, new research released today reveals.

The study commissioned by Palmolive Naturals Nutra-Fruit shower gel, aimed to uncover the ways in which modern day Aussies relax and take time out. And it seems the ladies are missing out to the lads when it comes to putting their feet up.

Almost two thirds (62%) of Aussie women feel they don't get enough -me time' with over half (55%) saying they put the needs of others first before setting aside time for themselves, compared to 39% of men.

Not only that, but when it comes to self-indulgence, Aussie men are also more likely to spend more on treats for themselves. On average, men spend $35 a week on treats while women spend almost a third less ($27) - despite the fact that more than one in five women said shopping provided them with a way of winding down out of the house.

But it wasn't all bad for the guys - when asked what brings them the most pleasure in life, one third said their partner!

What it boils down to
Being too busy was overwhelmingly viewed as the main reason Aussie women don't get enough me-time, while one in five said they were always looking after the kids. Meanwhile for men, only 3% blamed their children for a lack of relaxation time, while 22% said they were always working.

Just leave me alone!
So how do most Aussies like to relax? Over half (59%) said they'd rather chill out on their own, with nearly two thirds of women (62%) saying they prefer to be alone when they do get the chance to spoil themselves.

And it came as no surprise that many Australians cite the shower as one of the most decadent experiences of the day with one in three saying it gives them the chance to relax and unwind. Popular ways to wind down outside the home include going for a walk (25%) and going out for dinner (17%), while top answers for relaxing at home were watching TV (37%), reading a book or magazine and surfing the internet (17%).

The survey also found:
27% of men said they daydream in the shower, while 23% of women think about what they are going to wear and 20% think about housework!

The Sunshine State leads the country as being the most thoughtful, with 58% of Queenslanders saying they put others first before setting aside time for themselves.
In the battle between Sydney vs Melbourne, Sydneysiders are more likely to put others first (44%) when matched up against their southern equivalent (40%)

Gen Y were shown to be the most self-centered of all age groups - not only were they the least likely to put others first (39%), they were also found to spend the highest amount each week pampering themselves with -me-time' treats ($39)
Those with children are more likely to put others first before taking time out for themselves (56%), compared to those without (33%)
4.5% of women listed chocolate as providing them the most pleasure in life
