Darling Harbour's spectacular New Year's Eve fireworks will be staged at not one, but two, live sites in 2014.

The changing footprint of Darling Harbour, and ongoing development of the highly-anticipated International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), has reduced the viewing audience capacity at Cockle Bay, so event organiser Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA) has opened up a second fireworks site at Tumbalong Park to distribute crowds more evenly.

Alongside the two major displays traditionally held at 9pm and midnight, there will be smoke and laser shows at both the Cockle Bay and Tumbalong Park firing sites each hour from 8pm until midnight, with smaller fireworks displays every half-hour.

CEO of SHFA, Catherine Gallagher, advised visitors to Darling Harbour to arrive early on New Year's Eve and choose which site they wanted to attend, as movement around the precinct would be restricted and seating limited on the night.

'While we are very excited about staging two New Year's Eve fireworks sites in Darling Harbour, visitors need to understand it will be different from previous years because of the ICC Sydney development," Ms Gallagher said.

'We recommend visitors take public transport to the CBD and enter Darling Harbour via the southern end of the precinct, near the Chinese Garden of Friendship.

'As areas around Darling Harbour reach capacity, security will be restricting access so plan to arrive early and get settled," she said.

Darling Harbour New Year's Eve 2014 is a total glass-free zone and strictly no BYO-alcohol. Pedestrians' bags will be checked by Rangers at all entry points, including each end of Pyrmont Bridge and anyone found with glass or alcohol will be required to either discard these items or wait to be escorted by Rangers.

Pyrmont Bridge will be closed to cyclists as early as 10am on New Year's Eve 2014.
