Ruel Sells Out Debut Solo Shows

Ruel Sells Out Debut Solo Shows

15-year-old multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Ruel has sold out his debut shows at The Metro Theatre in Sydney and the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne. The initial response from ticket sales indicated that Ruel should be playing to larger audiences and would be upgraded to bigger venues. Not only did Ruel go on to sell out both shows but he did so completely by word of mouth and social media.

Coinciding with this incredible milestone Ruel has released another soul pop gem Younger taken from his forthcoming debut Ready EP, which drops this Friday June 15 via Ruel's own label Muziek Trust distributed by Sony Music. Younger premiered as a World Record on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show, where the esteemed tastemaker and host hailed the London born, Australian based artist as "one of our favourite new artists at Apple Music."

Assuring listeners "this is just getting started." Younger also landed in the top 10 of Spotify's New Music Friday playlist in the US, receiving 22 NMF placements and 3 top 10's. Upon release it received Best of the Week placements with Apple Music in over 10 countries.

The new track Younger is comprised of an all-star cast of Ruel's friends, including Grammy Award-winning producers M-Phazes and S1 (Beyonce, Kanye West & Jay-Z), background vocals by Sarah Aarons (Zedd & Alessia Cara, Dua Lipa) and LA gospel outfit Jason McGee & The Choir. It is unique collaborations like this that further solidify the 15-year-old multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Ruel as one of the most exciting emerging artists in 2018. Speaking of his latest release, Ruel explains "I wrote Younger at my Airbnb in LA with my mate Sarah Aarons. We were talking about how friends part ways over time because of different interests or family life and I really liked that concept for a song. I definitely relate to this story personally and I feel like most people have gone through this kind of scenario too."

Younger follows on from the debut of Ruel's official video for Dazed & Confused, which had PAPER Magazine praising it for its "million-dollar chorus" and "slow-burning beat sure to lodge itself in your prefrontal cortex," and TIME Magazine drawing comparisons "in the vein of Purpose-era Justin Bieber's most mature and earworm-ready hits," adding Dazed and Confused stands apart by drawing on blues and R&B for added depth. Dazed & Confused has now gathered 4 million streams on Spotify.

Younger was executive produced by Ruel's good friend, mentor and collaborator M-Phazes (Eminem, Logic, Kimbra, Zara Larsson, KYLE), the man behind Ruel's forthcoming EP and previous singles Don't Tell Me and the debut smash Golden Years, the Ready EP is available now to pre-order here.

Compared to the likes of Frank Ocean and James Blake by NYLON Magazine, 15-year-old London born, Australian raised artist was introduced to soul, blues and jazz by his music-loving father, and counts Stevie Wonder, Dave Brubeck and Amy Winehouse as major musical influences growing up.

After picking up and learning to play the guitar at 8 years old, Ruel started to write songs of his own, drawing inspiration from the aforementioned groundbreaking acts. Drawing from his own experiences as a teenage boy, Ruel explains "all my songs are about personal experiences. Songwriting helps me get through things, feelings that I don't understand myself. When I write about something, it helps me figure it out in the process. But I want people of all ages, whether they're 15 or 50, to be able to relate to my songs."
