The Good Mayor

The Good Mayor

Published to great critical acclaim in Scotland in May 2008, The Good Mayor swiftly became one of the literary sensations of the year. Set in the little town of Dot in a forgotten part of the Baltic, it tells the story of Tibo Krovic, the good and honest Mayor of Dot, and his love for his secretary, the beautiful, lonely but married, Mrs Agathe Stopak.

The Good Mayor is Andrew Nicolls debut novel. A newspaper reporter working at the Scottish Parliament, he wrote The Good Mayor during his daily train journey to work but struggled to find a publisher. Just ten days before his self-imposed two-year deadline, he was offered a contract by an Edinburgh-based independent publisher. Word-of-mouth then saw his book rise through the Scottish bestseller charts, highly acclaimed by both critics and readers.

In the quiet, respectable town of Dot, there is nothing that Tibo can do about his love for Mrs Stopak but one day, when she accidentally drops her lunch into a fountain, everything changes and their lives will never be the same again.

The Good Mayor contains love, loss, magic, friendship, wonderful food, a brass band, an Italian witch, a large lawyer, and occasional dog and a car chase that takes place at walking pace.
