The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella

Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits. In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.

Review On Saturday the 5th of June I followed one of my friends to her favourite book store to pick up a copy of Stephenie Myer's new novella The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. As a Twilight fan (maybe even a Twihard) I was excited to get another drop of Myer's supernatural-filled world. We got to the store at 10am and were told they could not sell the book till 2pm. A whole four hours we had to wait! We weren't happy but we passed the time by discussing what we thought the story would be like. At 2.05pm we had one novella each in our hot little hands. By 5pm I had finished the 192 pages that is The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, and I was impressed.

The book follows the last week of Bree Tanners undead life as a vampire. As we already know, Bree is a newborn in Victoria's army who surrenders at the end of Eclipse only to be left in the brutal hands of the Volturi.

For such a small book it does not feel rushed at all. Meyer manages to flesh out her main characters and make us feel and love them like we would Edward, Jacob or Bella. She writes with suspense, mystery, tragedy and passion that oozes through the pages and into your imagination and heart. Though you know from the beginning how the book is going to end, it doesn't make it any less heart-wrenching. As the story is told from Bree's perspective the writing is slightly different from the other Twilight Saga books but not in a bad way. Bree is a very straight-forward character who doesn't fill the pages with a bleak outlook like Bella sometimes does, which is refreshing and entertaining.

So is it worth the $15 dollars to add this novella to your bookshelf? Well, if you are a huge fan of all things Twilight, then obviously, yes. And don't forget to check out Bree in the Eclipse movie that is being released July 1st. - Simone Traglia
