Tick Tock

TICK TOCK by Jane Freeman

A warm, witty and wise take on life and love.

Ever had one of those days when you've flushed your engagement ring down the toilet, the plumber has dug up half the house trying to retrieve it (unsuccessfully), then you notice painfully that the "baby's room" is actually still just "the spare room" and you've now got to rethink the entire idea of your marriage due to the potential bad omen of the lost ring?

Meet Daisy Change, in Jane Freeman's hilarious and poignant new novel, TICK TOCK.

Daisy is creeping towards her mid-thirties, she's been married to Tom for a reasonably comfortable and contented ten years, they live in a heavily mortgaged house in Manly and their only dependent is Chump, a Border Collie. Daisy runs her own PR company, while Tom, once a highly regarded business consultant, has been chronically depressed since predictions of Y2K doom and gloom failed to materialise.

But Daisy yearns to swap café culture for baby bliss and nature just isn't being very obliging.

In the meantime she has an eclectic list of C-grade clients all clamouring for publicity for their latest commercial/anniversary/gall bladder operation, and two best friends whose lives are becoming serious cause for concern as Daisy watches them shift and change in alarming ways. But nothing stays the same forever, and while Daisy's busy trying to play fix-it for her friends' predicaments, her own life begins to swing scarily out of control.

TICK TOCK brings a fresh perspective to contemporary women's fiction. Jane Freeman tackles not only the common issue of infertility, but also the less-spoken about ideals of marriage. What happens when comfort, security and companionship might not be enough, is this where real marriage begins or ends?

Popular columnist and author Jane Freeman evokes laughter and tears as she leads readers through the spin cycle that is life in TICK TOCK.
