The five-track EP has just been released, and follows her recent third single, a yearning ballad titled ‘Write About’, which debuted in the Top 5 of the Australia and New Zealand Spotify Viral Charts. Atelophobia contains three new songs, as well as the track that reached Top 5 on the Spotify Global Viral Charts with over 4 million streams, “My Kingdom (William Black Remix)”, resulting in Evangeline signing a exclusive licensing deal with Polydor France (Universal Music in Australasia), for which she has formed her label, Sad Boy Records.

Cold Chisel at the Coates Hire Newcastle 500

Date:Saturday, 25 November
Booking:Tickets for the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 are on sale now from Ticketek.

Legendary Australian rock band, Cold Chisel has announced today that they will headline the inaugural Coates Hire Newcastle 500 on Saturday, 25 November - their only mainland-Australia show for 2017.
This show marks the first time Cold Chisel has played in Newcastle since their massive Light The Nitro tour back in 2011 (which remains the biggest grossing tour ever by an Australian-based band). 2015’s One Night Stand tour was unable to get to Newcastle so this announcement marks a special payback for Novocastrians.
Renowned as one of the most dynamic Australian live acts ever, Cold Chisel - Jimmy Barnes (lead vocals), Ian Moss (lead guitar/vocals), Don Walker (keyboards/backing vocals), Phil Small (bass guitar) and Charley Drayton (drums) - will perform their iconic hits such as Flame Trees, Khe Sanh, Cheap Wine, Rising Sun and Bow River, as well as songs from their recent albums ‘No Plans’ and ‘The Perfect Crime’.
Cold Chisel is one of Australia’s most revered rock outfits, with a history that spans forty years and a catalogue of songs and albums that have become part of the nation's psyche. In the late '70s, after the band had decamped from their birthplace in Adelaide and moved to Sydney, Newcastle became a second home for them. And of course their classic song Star Hotel was inspired by the riots that erupted in Newcastle when the famous band venue was shut down.
The Coates Hires Newcastle 500 has been secured for Newcastle by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, with the support of Newcastle City Council as a major regional event which will drive significant visitation and economic benefit to the communities of Newcastle and the Hunter.

Praise to Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, Tina Turner, Susie Quatro, Heart, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks and more!

These rock goddesses of the '’70s and ’'80s gave us solid riffs and rhythm in music that have withstood the test of time. Joining Nikki on stage will be an all-star band, featuring Rick Petropoulos –(The Ferrets), Paul Gildea (Icehouse), Nik Pringadi –& Davey Porter –(Electric Mary). Belting out half of the set list is the amazing voice of Lisa Bade, with her husky gravel sound, she does Janis better than Joplin!

Nikki Nicholls is well known now as the sassy featured vocalist for the acclaimed Jam the Funk band but has also toured (and recorded) as a backing vocalist with John Farnham and with artists such as Kylie Minogue, Stevie Wonder, Suzi Quatro, Lulu and Australian Crawl. She has recently completed a National tour of her successful show ‘'You’'ve Got a Friend’ –- The Songs and Story of Carole King'.

Lisa Bade recorded her album ‘Suspicion’ in the USA with mega session musos including Peter Frampton, Waddy Watchel and Mick Ronson. Lisa and Nikki formed ‘The Lovestars’ that had a cult following in Melbourne for many years. Also at that time, Lisa had become the pin-up girl of Pentridge! Ode To Death Tour Dates

Saturday 12th August - The Tote, Melbourne
Tuesday 15th August - The Zoo, Brisbane
Friday 18th August - Chippendale, Sydney
Saturday 19th August - Rad Bar, Wollongong

Melbourne rock outfit Drunk Mums return with a new single ‘Ode To Death’ The first single of their forthcoming EP Denim.

The track continues from their recent homage of hard rock and punk heard on their latest release Leather. Taking influence from Johnny Thunders and The Stooges the band takes a step back with this one, or so it seems, considering the lyrics have a pretty bleak undertone. Don’t let that fool you though, it is still something you could probably show ya parents and hell they’d probably like it too.

'Ode To Death' is true to the Drunk Mums rock, punk, garage sound which has been witnessed in previous tracks 'Plastic' and 'Nanganator'. Following the release of ‘Ode To Death’ Drunk Mums will roll out a small Australian tour with some of their favourite bands in support.

The November Forecourt performance will feature the 20-year-old’s eagerly-awaited second album Melodrama. The first single, ‘Green Light’, provided a glimpse of a new summer soundtrack. As Pitchfork saw it, 'Green Light's dancefloor euphoria was “a new look for this 20-year-old who first appeared as a shadowy teenaged mystic. She doles it out carefully… but when it hits, she’s radiant.”

Kristian Bezuidenhout – the virtuoso pianist known as ‘Mozart reincarnated’ – will reunite with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) next month on a nationwide tour from 24 June to 9 July. Born in South Africa, raised in Australia, and educated in the US, Bezuidenhout rose to fame at the age of 21, winning first prize at the prestigious Bruges Fortepiano Competition. He is known internationally as one of the world’s leading performers of Mozart.

Bezuidenhout, who grew up in the Gold Coast before moving abroad to study at the Eastman School of Music, credits his upbringing in Australia as being ‘truly remarkable’ in shaping his musical development and outlook, and relishes every opportunity to return to the country.

“Australia is a place that holds very strong and happy memories for me on many levels, most vividly because it’s the place where I started learning piano,” Bezuidenhout said. “I recall Australia as being truly remarkable at that time for the richness and seriousness of its classical music education. There was this sense in both my primary school and high school that music is absolutely one of the most important aspects of a rich education and needs to be treated just as seriously as anything else.”

Bezuidenhout first encountered the music of Mozart when he saw the film Amadeus as a child. The movie made a lasting impression and has left the pianist ‘madly obsessed’ with the composer to this day.

“That film… just blew my mind. The love that comes through for Mozart’s music is so extraordinarily poignant,” Bezuidenhout said. “And since then, it’s been clear to me that Mozart’s music changed the course of what is possible musically and emotionally in such profound ways...The depth of characterisation and the depth of latent emotional content under the surface of his music is mind-blowing.”

Bezuidenhout will play alongside an intimate ensemble of ACO musicians, including Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, Principal Violin Helena Rathbone, Guest Principal Viola Florian Peelman and Principal Cello Timo-Veikko ‘Tipi’ Valve, who will together perform some of Mozart and Schumann’s most magnificent and moving music written for strings and piano.

Bezuidenhout and the ACO Principals will perform Mozart’s Piano Concert No. 13, a work that Bezuidenhout describes as “astonishingly ground-breaking for its time”. Mozart wrote of the concerto that it could be “performed with full orchestra…or merely a quattro”, which is how it will be presented in these concerts. Schumann’s String Quartet No.3 and Piano Quintet will bookend the program. Composed in 1842, Schumann’s ‘chamber music year’ and also not long after he married his beloved Clara, these two magnificent works have been described as “the most perfect of all the products of [Schumann’s] genius”.

Bezuidenhout last appeared with the ACO in 2014, when he toured with the Orchestra to The Netherlands, the UK, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria.

Australian Festival of Chamber Music

Venue:Townsville, North Queensland
Date:28 July – 5 August 2017

The internationally acclaimed Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) in Townsville is about to get saxy, really saxy!!  Three of the country’s leading ensembles will make the northern sojourn for the nine-day Festival from July 28 through to August 5, including in their AFCM-debut, the critically acclaimed Nexus Quartet from Sydney - four fantastic saxophonists who are set to sax up the North!

Joining Nexus Quartet is the internationally famed Goldner String Quartet as the 2017 Quartet-in-Residence, and the Brisbane-based Orava String Quartet.

Based in Sydney and formed in 2002, the four sax-masters of Nexus Quartet are Michael Duke (Soprano Saxophone), Andrew Smith (Alto Saxophone), Nathan Henshaw (Tenor Saxophone) and Jay Byrnes (Baritone Saxophone); famed for being at the forefront of chamber music in promoting existing and creating new repertoire for the saxophone. In 2016 Nexus performed with trumpeter Matthew Dempsy, and also performed the world premiere of *Matthew Hindson’s Romeo and Juliet Suite. Also last year they launched their debut album, Current. The CD features world premiere recordings by Australian composers Matthew Hindson, Elena Kats-Chernin, Daniel Rojas, Matthew Orlorvich and Lachlan Skipworth. (*Composer-in-Residence at this year’s AFCM). They have performed at the prestigious APRA Awards and around the world and already this year they have recorded for ABC classics with Opera star Peter Coleman-Wright (also performing at this year’s AFCM).

Known as Australia’s pre-eminent chamber music ensemble as well as one of the leading ensembles in the world, the Goldner String Quartet has a widespread and long-standing recognition for excellence, and is the perfect Ensemble-in-Residence for AFCM to celebrate the finale program for Artistic Director Piers Lane.  Launched for the 1995 season, and still retaining all four founding members in Dene Olding (Violin), Dimity Hall (Violin), Irina Morozova (Viola) and Julian Smiles (Cello), the Goldner String Quartet is a standout.

The Orava Quartet, founded in 2007 by Daniel Kowalik (Violin), Karol Kowalik (Cello) and Thomas Chawner (Viola), and joined in 2011 by David Dalseno (Violin), is one of the most exciting string quartets of its generation. Known for their passionate performances, they have been hailed as, “in terms of the future of Australian Chamber Music, the real deal.”

They were the graduate quartet-in-residence at the University of Colorado, in the United States, from 2012-2014 and have been based in Brisbane since late-2014, as the quartet-in-residence with the Camerata - Queensland's Chamber Orchestra. Since their return to Australia, major events have included the Musica Viva Festival, Melbourne Festival, Australian Festival of Chamber Music, and Huntington Estate Festival.

The three ensembles join a lineup of 42 extraordinary artists converging on Townsville for the AFCM, including 13 from overseas. Four international artists will make their Australian debut including Poul Høxbro (Flutes and Percussion) from Denmark, Italy’s Francesca Dego (Violin), Henk Neven (Baritone) from the Netherlands, and from the United Kingdom, Martin Owen (Horn).

Importantly, 2017 will be the final festival for celebrated Artistic Director Piers Lane AO who over his 11 years of artistic leadership has welcomed an extraordinary number of artists and guests to the North Queensland capital for this very special event, one which now captures the eyes and ears of the world’s music leaders.   AFCM Artistic Director designate, the highly distinguished UK pianist Kathryn Stott, joins the festival in 2017 as a performer.
