Interview with Dar Stellabotta

Question: How would you describe the Black Owl Demo?

Dar Stellabotta: The Black Owl Demo to me is my story about my struggle with love, who I am as a person and who I want to be.

Question: Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Dar Stellabotta: In my eyes some of the main stream music that is being promoted lacks soul. What I mean by soul is it lacks that real life suffering caused by joy, pain, sorrow, etc. It's just dry, I feel.

Question: Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?

Dar Stellabotta: Yes. My inspiration for the Black Owl Demo is some friends of mine that live by me here in Huntingtown Maryland.

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Dar Stellabotta: Lately I have been listening Tara Nevins album Wood and Stone non-stop. I recently went to a Citizen Cope concert in Baltimore and have been rocking some Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphy's in the ole whip.

Question: What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

Dar Stellabotta: Next is shows; I recently starting playing with my friend Sophia. She is a drummer. I play the banjo and she plays the drums. Sounds like bluegrass R&B. We are trying to get our friend Shana to join us and play bass. Shows are definitely next on the list.

Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Dar Stellabotta: Always because I live on the east coast of America where the only successful people are doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc. My family is here. So unlike most stardom seekers that move to the west coast in search of fame and fortune I chose to stay here in my home town to help my Mom, Dad, sister and her children. Family is important.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Dar Stellabotta: I prefer performing live because I get to travel and make new friends.

Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Dar Stellabotta: The main reason I started performing and playing music was a man named Trip McClenny who ran a music festival camp grounds in West Virginia. I always played a little bit of guitar and went to his festivals. He heard me play one time and gave me a chance to perform at festivals where Rusted Root, Ratdog, Avett Brothers and many other great bands performed.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Dar Stellabotta: Just letting go of fear and being myself.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Dar Stellabotta: Working on something.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Dar Stellabotta: Being able to write, record and publish my stories for the world to hear!

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Dar Stellabotta: My friend Wax and Herbal T because I like they're style.

Question: Do you have a website fans can visit?

Dar Stellabotta: www.DarStellabotta.com

Question: Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy & enjoyable life?

Dar Stellabotta: Definitely exercise, being around people that make you happy, help people, eating healthy and stay positive!

Question: What message would you like your music to say to your fans?

Dar Stellabotta: Don't stress because no matter how bad things get in life unconditional love conquers all.
